Geoscience for the Future is a not-for-profit initiative set up in 2020 to communicate the links between Geoscience and a more sustainable future. We aim to promote our subject to a wider audience, connect with students, and encourage the next generation of geoscientists to join us in tackling the major challenges facing our society.
Our Team
Dr. Natasha Dowey is the creator and lead editor of Geoscience for the Future. She is Associate Professor in sustainable geoscience and volcanology at Sheffield Hallam University. Natasha is passionate about spreading the message that studying our planet is crucial to a more sustainable society. As well as researching volcanic hazards, she is an advocate for equity and inclusion in geoscience.
Dr. Hazel Beaumont, a Geology Lecturer at the University of West England in the UK, is an outreach coordinator at Geoscience for the Future. Hazel believes that geology underpins all we do and all we need, from drinking water to mobile phones. She wants to encourage others to help develop our sustainable future.
Dr. Jen Roberts, a Chancellor’s Fellow in Energy (a fancy name for a research-orientated lectureship) at the University of Strathclyde in the UK, is a coordinator and editor at Geoscience for the Future. Jen feels strongly about interdisciplinary geoscience for a sustainable future that is fair for all.
Our Collaborators
We are very fortunate to have Dr. Laura Roberts as a collaborator and co-conspirator with science communications expertise. Laura has held a variety of communications leadership roles both within and outside of geoscience.
Our Contributors
This website would not be possible without input from many amazing geoscientists, working in a range of universities and companies, who have donated their time to explain the wonders of what they do.
If you work in an awesome area of geoscience and would like to contribute, or have feedback or comments about the site, please feel free to get in touch. If you work in a school and would like an inspiring Geoscientist to visit your students, let us know and we’ll try to link you up!
